As the Media Planner and Buyer, your role is to identify which media platforms best advertise a client’s marketing requirements. Your aim is to enable clients to maximise the impact of their advertising campaigns through the use of a wide range of media channels. You negotiate, purchase and monitor advertising space and airtime on behalf of the agencies clients. The aim is to reach the highest number of people in the target audience at the lowest possible cost.

Role and responsibilities

Role and Responsibilities of the Media Planner and Buyer:
• Managing the effective planning and buying of media activity for a range of clients as directed by the Head of Media Planning and Buying and in collaboration with colleagues from the Client Relationship, Business Development and Digital Media teams.
• Identifying the target audience for a particular media campaign and providing suggestions on how best to communicate to that audience;
• Maintaining an up to date knowledge of the market place including utilising industry research figures, including distribution figures (newspapers and magazines) and audience figures (television and radio);
• Monitoring buying strategies for our client base to enable innovative campaign planning
• Liaising and building relationships with clients and media sales companies attending face to face meetings and briefings.
• Negotiating with media sales companies to obtain the best rates and most appropriate media spaces in online, broadcast and print advertising;
• Communicating with media sales people to adjust media schedules in response to audience figures, ensuring an accurate understanding of how the chosen media solution meets the target audience
• Booking individual advertising spots across a wide range of offline media, supporting the digital media team with online bookings.
• Ensuring that the adverts run accurately so the desired media message is seen and heard by consumers, monitoring copy supply and receipt by the media.
• Client reporting and budget management, including preparing costings for clients and producing spending updates throughout the campaign;
• Collecting and analysing sales and consumer data;
• Undertaking research using a wide range of specialist media resources;
• Analysing the effectiveness of the campaign and using this data to inform future campaigns;
• Working on a range of client accounts at the same time, often juggling various projects and deadlines;
• Alongside the Head of Client Services and Client Relationship Managers, developing excellent client relationships internally and externally to build respect and trust in your judgement.
• Proof reading advertisement content before release
• Maintaining detailed records, accurate use of Concept, accurately following processes and procedures including assisting with invoice queries.
• Undertaking any process and administrative duties to ensure the accurate and timely processing of client work, making suggestions for effective working processes to the Head of Client Services as appropriate.
• Liaising closely with the finance team to ensure that accurate supplier purchase orders are provided, implementing systems and processes to ensure efficient working in this area.
• Any other duties by the Head of Client Services, or Senior Management Team.

Experience and Skills of the Media Planner and Buyer:
• Excellent written and Verbal Communication skills
• Excellent Negotiation Skills
• Computer literate with excellent Excel skills
• A Go-Getter with a great attitude.
